Bad Lieutenant review
Werner Herzog's edgy vision is encapsulated in Nicolas Cage who rolled back the years..and the wrinkles; his face more taut than Cher and a Tupperware container. The performance though was not strained; there are a plethora of drug scenes..can anyone else give as maniacial reactions as he did?
It's a mass of contradictions. Though he was degenerate he got results 'the lucky pipe'. And though he was corrupt his love for prostitute Eva Mendes was pure; there is hope.
The film's beautifully filmed be it the feel of New Orleans or trippy iguana images.
The characterisation captures the compulsion of drugs, alcoholism and its associated sadness.
